Permaculture & the Sustainable Society
Are we all consuming more than we are producing, using up natural resources faster than we are renewing them, polluting through our lifestyle, and thereby heading towards lessened possibilities for the planet’s future? If we are, what can be done about it? This class explains the permacultural perspective on how we can get a more sustainable society while creating a vastly more satisfying life for all. If food, housing, energy and transportation are locally produced sustainably, the cost of living will drop and life on earth will prosper. This class includes a review of the global ecological situation, principles for improving things, and information both on ecological-impact reducing architecture using local materials and alternative energy, and ways groups can rearrange our cities for sustainability.
NOTE: This is one of the four permaculture courses that lead to a permaculture designer’s certificate. This class does not require having taken other permaculture classes. Students who have not taken the other classes must take Introduction to Permaculture.
