2012 Gala: Local Flavor

Thursday April 26, 2012
Trevisio
6550 Bertner Avenue
Houston, TX 77030

It started with a simple idea: host a meal celebrating the amazing food grown in our own backyard. Like the seeds we plant in the soil, this small idea was cultivated and nurtured until it blossomed into something beautiful and abundant, the Urban Harvest springtime gala. In 2012, Local Flavor, a celebration of food and farmers – and the organization that promotes them both.

Driving this simple idea is Urban Harvest’s commitment to several important missions. We are dedicated to increasing awareness of the benefits of eating local foods. Turns out that eating local is not only healthy and tasty, it’s good for the environment and the local economy. Urban Harvest is also committed to promoting gardening in our ever-growing city, and to increasing the number of gardens in our urban food deserts. There’s nothing better than the juice of a newly picked peach or the exquisite flavor of a home-grown tomato. From humble seeds comes the food that sustains us.

We need help to sustain Urban Harvest and its mission. As a sponsor of the 2012 Urban Harvest Gala, you will help foster healthy communities, sound nutrition and respect for the environment by educating children and adults and facilitating harvest and habitat gardens throughout our city.
