Permanent City Hall Farmers Market Kicks Off with LIVE Appearance of AMERICAN IDOL'S "IDOL ACROSS AMERICA"

WHAT:

To support local farmers and assist helping over 40 "micro businesses," the City of Houston will be conducting a weekly farmer's market at City Hall. After a successful pilot program, the City will permanently host the City Hall Farmer's Market each Wednesday from 11 am until 2 pm. The public can enjoy lunch or pick up groceries weekly and at the same time support local, fresh and sustainable food all amidst Houston's dramatic downtown urban setting.

The City Hall Farmers Market will showcase over 40 vendors located along both sides of City Hall's reflection pool, to include local farmers' fresh produce, cheeses, breads, roasted coffees, and a variety of prepared meals and food trucks. In addition to purchasing food (ATMs on-site), top chefs will be performing cooking demos and there will be music weekly. For the kick-off, school students participating in Recipe For Success' School Garden Program will be making reusable, compostable, homemade newspaper pots for planting seeds.

AMERICAN IDOL's "IDOL ACROSS AMERICA," a biodiesel-fueled mobile experience tour traveling to 16 cities across the U.S. over a four-week period, selected Houston and the City Hall Farmers Market as their 4th stop.

Visitors to this national mobile tour, who are U.S. residents 15 years of age or older, will have the opportunity to record their own take on the "This is AMERICAN IDOL…" introduction made famous by Ryan Seacrest and be entered into a nationwide contest for a chance to win a trip to Hollywood to deliver the famous line on the IDOL stage alongside Ryan! As part of the tour, fans will also have the opportunity to participate in the "Be Your Own Idol" singing experience and pose for photos alongside life-size standees of host Ryan Seacrest and judges Randy Jackson, Jennifer Lopez and Steven Tyler.

Public tours inside the AMERICAN IDOL bus will also feature memorabilia.
