Hours & Days
Meetings are once a month, 2nd Wednesday of the month, 11:30am

Description
Help plan gardener gatherings with the volunteers in our Community Gardens Committee. They meet once a month to plan the spring semi-annual gardeners meeting and the Harvest Celebration in November. This committee also goes out to visit area community gardens, tell them about our support services and see how they're doing.

The network of community gardens includes the traditional community garden as well as gardens that grow for the hungry and dozens of school gardens where teachers provide hands-on lessons. Over 100 gardens are in this network, and we help bring them together!

Skills & Experience Needed
We meet once a month at 11:30am on a Wednesday, in the Urban Harvest classroom. We're looking for folks who can accomodate this meeting time in their schedule - some volunteers take a long lunch hour to meet with us.

This volunteer opportunity is great for folks who enjoy planning and hosting events. Our "spring fling" and Harvest Celebration are potluck luncheons where volunteers pitch in to bring food, drinks and supplies as well as assemble invitations, organize speakers and the program. This fun bunch of volunteers enjoys bringing Houston-area community gardeners together to trade stories and share ideas.

This group also sometimes visits gardens or calls gardeners we haven't heard from in a while to see how they're doing. If you enjoy networking and are comfortable chatting or calling folks that are new to you, we can use that skill! If not, no problem - we invite you to help with the events.

Location
Our meetings are in the Urban Harvest classroom.
