The Augustana Lutheran Church Organic Community Organic Garden was initiated in the winter of 2002. The Augustana Lutheran Church members donate their time and talent to grow vegetables in this community garden.

The main goal of the garden is to grow nutritious food for donation at the food pantry, but the garden is also a terrific environment for therapeutic exercise and a community resource for the residents of the Third Ward.

The summer harvest this year included corn, tomatoes, peppers, peas, greens, carrots, beans, squash, and flowers. The gardeners have also planted and cared for a number of

trees to provide shade and beautify the area.

Visitors are welcome at the garden. The garden is located next to the Augustana Lutheran Church in the Third Ward in south central Houston. The church is at 2001 Wheeler, near highway 288.

Additional volunteers always needed. You don't have to know anything about gardening - we will teach you. You will enjoy the companionship of other gardeners, get good exercise, and feed hungry people.
