The Levy Garden opened its gates to community gardeners in the fall of 2003. This garden is the first of its kind in Houston; a community center where gardeners may rent a plot for growing vegetables, fruits and flowers.

This "Earth's Urban Nature Center" provides educational opportunities for all ages. The enclosed gardens include a wetland demonstration area and special native plant areas. 34 gardening plots are available for groups and individuals to plant and maintain flower and vegetable gardens. Horticultural groups are invited to plant demonstration beds. For example, different species of the same plant genus.

The nature center and garden is located at the north end of Levy Park. The park is located on Eastside, south of its intersection with Richmond. The garden is behind the Upper Kirby Center, 3015 Richmond Ave., Houston, 77098. Facilities at the Upper Kirby Center are available for garden lectures and meetings.

The nature center includes a pond and wetland, an orchard, an outdoor theater and individual garden plots. Two large planting areas are available for special groups or projects. Four of the smaller individual plots are adapted for physically challenged gardeners. 34 beds, 5x10 feet are available for groups and individuals. All beds are raised two feet above ground level. Irrigation is provided. The garden area is secured by an attractive steel fence.
