Seeds and Transplants
Obtain seeds of plant varieties that do well in the Houston area. A list of varieties as well as suppliers can be found here and in Dr. Randall’s book . Use Dr. Randall’s book as a guide for choosing transplant varieties as well, many of the local nurseries carry the varieties mentioned in his book. Transplants should be planted as soon as possible (within a few days) after purchase, and should be kept well watered before planting. For this reason, it is best to purchase transplants after your garden is constructed.
Miscellaneous supplies
Lots of Newspaper or Cardboard: you need enough newspaper to have 8-10 sheets of paper or cardboard to put a single layer covering the entire surface of the bottom of all the beds. Start collecting newspaper or cardboard weeks in advance prior to your construction day.
