Description
Crabtree Gardens is located 50 miles south of Houston near Chocolate Bayou and about 12 miles from Galveston Bay in Liverpool, Texas.
Brian retired from the City of Houston in 2005 and began growing produce for Houston's green markets in 2006. Sustainable growing practices are used and no chemical pesticides or fertilizers are used.
There are two garden areas consisting of 10 four-foot wide beds that are 50 feet in length. All crops are grown in season, in the field; there is no greenhouse growing. Successful crops so far have included: french fillet green beans, snow peas, chinese cabbage, turnip greens, turnips, mustard greens, bok choi, eggplant, okra, lettuce, and radish. There are also young figs, hybrid blackberries, and a variety of citrus for the future.
During March we are planting for summer: Galia melons, cantalopes, okra, eggplant, and a variety of green beans.
I am thankful to Urban Harvest for the opportunity to sell my produce at the Gardeners Corner of the Bayou City Farmers Market.
