During these unprecedented times, Urban Harvest is committed to doing our part to ensure everyone stays healthy, active, and fed. We’re here to support you. This means adapting our programs to fit the growing needs of our neighbors and community members – keeping our organization running to bolster not only local farms and gardens, but also all Houstonians. We know: Access to fresh, healthy food and safe, outdoor greenspace has never been more important.
Today, your support is also crucial. As we continue to provide resources, education, and food to those who need it most, we simply can’t do it alone. Please: Help Urban Harvest “Grow Resilience,” and donate during this critical moment. A gift at any level makes a difference, enabling Urban Harvest to support our staff and fulfill our mission: to cultivate thriving communities through gardening and access to healthy, local food.
Grow Resilience with Urban Harvest:
Social distancing doesn’t mean we have to be disconnected
With the guidance of local, state, and federal officials, our Saturday Farmers Market will remain open – with new safety regulations, health measures, and a drive thru service for online pre-orders. The market provides vital support to some of our most hard-hit regional farms and small businesses, while offering one of the safest methods for the community to access food.
Our vendors are resilient – and are creating new pathways to access their fresh, healthy products through curbside pickup, home and satellite deliveries, Farmshares and CSAs, and more. Learn about how you can continue to support our vendors, and enjoy their local products.
Urban Harvest is moving our gardening resources online: providing virtual classes, basic gardening videos, kids activities, and more. Also, follow our simple recipes to cook “farm to table” – using your garden goodies to make fresh, healthy meals at home.
Always wanted to know what to plant? Never sure about when or how to harvest? Check out our education on 20 Veggies to Grow in 2020 - all suited to the unique climate and soils of the Greater Houston Area.
Learn about ways to connect to programs and partners that can help meet your food needs, through resources like SNAP benefits (formerly “food stamps”), school meal distributions, and other emergency food assistance.
Urban Harvest is consolidating relevant webinars and articles with information on local food systems and resources during COVID-19. Keep up-to-date with what’s happening with essential food news.
