This series consists of lecture style class paired with in the garden hands-on practice designed to teach you the principles of pruning and training your fruit trees A-Z.
Class 1 – Is a lecture and video demo on basic ideas such as: pruning tools and equipment, proper cutting techniques, timing, how to plan each tree’s next year production, and the many goals of fruit pruning for both young and mature plants. As time permits, the class will explain details about training and pruning commonly grown fruits.
Class 2 – Will be announced for hybrid with either zoom or in person hands-on pruning guidance in a backyard edible forest garden. Class 1 is a prerequisite.
Class 3 – Hands-on demonstration class for in person hands-on pruning guidance in a backyard edible forest garden.
Fruit trees to be covered: pears, apples, berries, peaches and plums, persimmons, grapes, citrus, pomegranates, figs, and as time permits other semi-Tropicals.

PRESENTER: Dr. Bob Randall, PhD
Bob is the author of the best selling local gardening book: Year Round Food Gardening for Houston and Southeast Texas. He was one of the eight founders of Urban Harvest in 1994 and was Executive Director from its beginning until he retired after 21 years of leadership (including Urban Harvest’s predecessor at the Interfaith Hunger Coalition) in early 2008.
As such, Bob has played a major local and national role in the development of area community gardens, school gardens, farmers’ markets, organic gardening Classes, organic landscaping. Bob is Treasurer of Houston’s organic landscaping education effort: the Organic Horticulture Benefits Alliance (OHBA). At Urban Harvest, Bob continues to teach fruits, vegetables, organics, climate, and sustainable living through permaculture. He also has chaired the annual Urban Harvest Fruit Tree Sale and continues active participation in that event.
