9am-11am- Spring Garden Workshop 

Join us for in the garden for an awesome presentation by longtime community gardener and food advocate, Terry Garner! This spring garden workshop has a special emphasis on seasonal favorites in African American cuisine. Participants will learn how to grow favorite vegetables in small urban spaces.  A few topics we’ll cover- 

• When and what time is best to start preparing garden for spring. 
• Which veggies are African American seasonal favorites for the Houston area. 
• How to harvest herbs and cool weather vegetables.  
• Seasonal seeds and transplants will be shared.  

11-12pm- Foodways Chef Demonstration 

After learning how and what to grow in your kitchen garden, Chef Nadia Ahmed of Green Roots Kitchen will provide a chef demonstration in the outdoor kitchen featuring season garden vegetables.  

PRESENTERS:  

Terry Garner is a Master Gardener and Coordinator of the Palm Center Community Garden. He has been a member of the historic Alabama Garden for over 25 years and also founder of Creston MBC Community Garden in the Greater Fifth Ward. Terry is retired, has enjoyed gardening his entire life and love sharing his knowledge and passion for gardening. His motto is "to share what you know and grow.”  

Chef Nadia Ahmed is the owner and of Green Roots Kitchen who’s mission is committed to food education, social responsibility and wellness on a plant-based diet through Seasonal Ingredients.  

If you cannot attend the class as scheduled, there are no refunds or substitutions.
