Designing Bountiful Gardens through Permaculture focuses on the design of family gardens in its context as part of a house or farm in a community.

This course is focused on learning to design urban and rural food gardens as part of a household, farm, and community.  Permaculture designs aim to place the whole complex of vegetables, fruits, domestic animals in a particular context with maximum production while cutting labor and costs. We talk about soil, pests, climate-weather, and water. We survey experience from around the world and practice designing gardens so you can realize your own wishes easier.  The Field Trips will visit a working permaculture farm to study gardening techniques and to group design a garden.  Lunch is provided on Field Trip 1.  A potluck lunch will be held on Field Trip 2.  All meals are vegetarian.

Permaculture is an 50-year old internationally taught and certified course on making successful sustainability decisions about living well on this planet for centuries.  This is 1 of 5 modules required to earn certification.  Taking Sustainable Living Through Permaculture 1 & 2 is required to enroll.  Those courses are taught in September and repeated in January. A limited number of work-study scholarships may be available.
