This lecture-style class series is paired with hands-on garden practice and is designed to teach you the principles of pruning and training your fruit trees A-Z.

Class 1 - Lecture and video demo on basic ideas such as: pruning tools and equipment, heathly cutting techniques, timing, how to plan each tree's production, and fruit turning for both young and mature plants.

Class 2 - Class 1 is a prerequisite. Specific fruits to be taught in Class 2 will be announced in class one, but will come from the ones above.

Class 3 - Class 1 is a prerequisite. Specific fruits to be taught is Class 3 will be announced in class one, but will come from the ones above.

Presenter

Dr. Bob Randall, PhD. is the author of the best-selling local gardening book: Year-Round Gardening for Houston and Southeast Texas. He was one of the eight founders of Urban Harvest in 1994 and was Executive Director from its beginning until he retired 21 years of leadership (including Urban Harvest's predecessor at the Interfaith Hunger Coalition) in early 2008. As such, Bob has played a major local and national role I the development of area community gardens, school gardens, farmers' markets, organic garden classes, and organic landscaping. Bob is Treasurer of Houston's organic landscaping eduction effort: the Organic Horticulture Benefits Alliance (OHBA). At Urban Harvest, Bob continues to teach fruits, vegetables, organics, climate, and sustainable living through permaculture. He also has chaired the annual Urban Harvest Fruit Tree Sale and continues active participation in that event.

Registration will close 24 hours prior to most classes and 48 hours before all Sunday classes

Houston Gardeners have experienced the past few years, knowing how to protect your fruit trees in winter is key to a successful and continued harvest. In this class, you will learn multiple methods to keep your trees alive and thriving throughout Houston winters. Included will be not just how and when to protect your trees but the understanding of what trees can manage and how to best plant for more tolerance.
