GROWING HERBS FOR USE, INSIGHT, AND DELIGHT
TUES. 10/05/2021 6:00PM-7:30PM
ZOOM LIVE CLASS BY INVITITATION, $20
Turn your herb garden into an outdoor classroom with Herb Society member Karen Cottingham! For each of a dozen seasonal herbs, Karen will discuss the basics of planting and care, but also how to use, enjoy, and learn from them. The class will include creative culinary applications for each herb, but also a bit about their interesting chemistry, botany, nutritional and medicinal benefits, history of use, and ecological significance. Herbs for teas, salves, fragrance, and pollinators will be among the herbs discussed.
PRESENTER: Karen Cottingham lives in Houston, Texas, but she grew up in a farming community in rural Washington state. After a long career in medicine, Karen now devotes most of her time to sharing her knowledge and enthusiasm for all aspects of herbs. She serves as Program Chair of the South Texas Unit, contributes articles to various STU and Herb Society of America publications, and provides the content for the HSA-STU Facebook page. Karen particularly enjoys introducing herbs to the public through demonstrations at libraries, museums, elementary schools, and public gardens.
