The foundation for growing healthy, nutrient dense vegetables is healthy soil - structure and chemistry are as important as are supporting microscopic soil organisms. Students will participate in soil building and management, fertilization, composting, mulching and planting with seed and transplants. Vegetable varieties to be planted will also be provided. This class is hands-on at Urban Harvest Teaching Garden, so be ready to dig in and get dirty!

Gloves, hand tools and supplies will be available for use.

PRESENTER

Location Details

The Urban Harvest teaching garden was created in 2019 and made possible by the generous support of Green Mountain Energy Sun Club Foundation. The garden irrigation is from a water catchment tank installed by Texas Metal Tanks and now known as Yumi. and powered by solar panels. The garden is a demonstration garden of plot rotation based on the techniques and gardening strategies from Dr. Bob Randall’s Year-Round Gardening Book.
