IN THE GARDEN--FRUIT TREE CARE, PRUNING & GRAFTING

Hosted in a school garden orchard, this class will cover the care of mature fruit trees, trees that have survived traumatic weather, and more! The class will guide you through how to properly mulch fruit trees as well as hands-on pruning techniques for temperate fruit, citrus and fig.  Tree grafting will also be demonstrated.  You do not want to miss! 

All participants will be required to sign a liability waiver for participation in the class.  

Tools will be provided and participants are also welcome to bring their gloves and pruners.   

PRESENTER
Mickey Kleinhenz is a certified Permaculture Designer and Trainer with degrees in Horticulture and Landscape Architecture. He has applied his expert knowledge in transforming a derelict vacant lot to a bountiful edible forest garden.  He has managed vegetable production for market gardening and worked many years with children in Urban Harvest school garden programs and outdoor education nationwide. 

COMMUNITY PARTNER SITE
Lantrip Elementary is an environmental magnet school in the Houston Independent School District. Their outdoor learning center includes a greenhouse, vegetable gardens, native plant gardens and orchard. Lantrip ES is currently an Urban Harvest affiliate school community garden and partnered as a Food Access Mobile Market community engagement partner site in greenhouse propagation of community vegetable transplant production activities lead by our Mobile Market Manager.
