Designed for beginning gardeners, this class teaches all the basics of top-down soil building with compost, slow-release fertilizer and mulch, and more! All to give you the best foundation for growing healthy, nutrient dense vegetables. Participants will also learn to how to plant tomatoes, as well as other spring time vegetables by planting transplants and seeds.
Class tools will be available on site for use along with garden gloves.
Included: Spring vegetable seeds, a tomato transplants and sample of slow-release organic plant food to get your spring garden started.
PRESENTER
Sharon Stinson is a recent graduate of our 2021 Growing Organic Vegetables Certification series and nearing completion of the 100-hour Permaculture Designers Certification Course. She is a regular volunteer in the Urban Harvest teaching garden and mentors with our long-time garden educator, Ms. ‘Priya’ Klien. She is an avid backyard gardener and McGovern Gardens volunteer through the Harris County Master Gardeners Program.
LOCATION:
The Urban Harvest teaching garden was created in 2019 and underwritten by the generous support of Green Mountain Energy Sun Club Foundation. The garden irrigation is from a water catchment tank installed by Texas Metal Tanks and powered by solar panels. The garden is a demonstration garden of plot rotation based on the techniques and gardening strategies from Dr. Bob Randall’s Year Round Gardening Book.
If you cannot attend a live class, there are not substitutions or refunds.
