IN-PERSON AT THE TREES FOR HOUSTON BAUER EDUCATION CENTER
1911 WEST 34TH STREET, HOUSTON, TEXAS 77018
In this Mediterranean Herbs class, you will learn about herbs used to make pesto and Italian seasoning. The course covers planting, propagation, harvesting and drying basil, oregano, parsley, rosemary, thyme, chili peppers, and garlic. You will learn how to blend and store seasonings, and you will leave with recipes to make yourself at home.
Dr. Catherine O’Brien was a biology professor and the Associate Vice Chancellor at San Jacinto College when she retired after 35 years to go back to the classroom. She then spent 6 years teaching anatomy and physiology before retiring again from UHCL to spend more time traveling, cooking, studying, gardening, and teaching others about herbs.
Catherine has taught zoology, botany, microbiology, anatomy and physiology, but when it came to botany, her professors always said, “Plants were food for animals. Any questions?”
It was not until she began gardening that she learned how exciting plants could be. She is a member of the Native Plant Society of Texas – Clear Lake Chapter and member of the Herb Society of America – South Texas Unit, where she chairs the Education Committee.
Registration will close 24 hours before classes Monday-Saturday and 48 hours before Sunday classes.
(After registration you will receive two emails, one is a receipt and the other will be sent 3 days before the class with event details that include Zoom link contact information. Contact firstname.lastname@example.org for questions.)
