Starting a School or Community Gardens Info Session
Are you interested in starting a school or community garden? This info session will go over the basics on what you need to know and steps to take to start a garden in your neighborhood, school, or local area. Join Meagan and Carol as they answer frequently asked questions, and take questions from viewers in a live Zoom meeting
Meagan Terry, Community Gardens Manager
Meagan holds a master’s degree in International Agricultural Development from UC Davis and studied Sociology as an undergraduate student. Compelled by community organizing and food justice issues, she has worked in Latin America and the US with farmers and on small farms with a focus on sustainable vegetable production. She is currently the Community Gardens Manager with Urban Harvest and is excited about being part of the local food system movement in Houston.
Carol Burton, Director of Garden Education
Carol has worked as an environmental educator in the development of outdoor classrooms and school gardens for over 20 years. As a backyard and community gardener, she has grown and taught how to grow vegetables and fruit in the Houston area. In 2019 along with Irene Nava and a team of collaborators, re-wrote and published the Urban Harvest School Garden Guide. As a volunteer for her neighborhood, she has started and sustained a neighborhood community garden with a team of volunteers.
