STARTING FALL TOMATOES, ALL YOU NEED TO KNOW!
SAT JULY 16, 2022 @ 10:00-11:30 AM
IN PERSON @ URBAN HARVEST
PRESENTER: MEG TAPP
$20
The weather may be hot, but all is not lost for your vegetable garden, even in late July. Fall tomato time is just around the corner! Learn the steps that should be taken now so your tomato transplants are ready for August planting. While the tomato is often thought of as a summer treat, the Houston climate offers a second chance for homegrown tomatoes in the fall! This class covers soil types, soil additives, site selection, tomato types, and fertilization.
PRESENTER:
Meg Tapp is the President of The Garden Club of Houston and leads workshops focusing primarily on backyard vegetable gardening. She’s a native Houstonian and been gardening all her adult life. You will be entertained as you learn from her experiences in her own garden. She is the plant expert for Houston Matters radio show on Houston Public Media, a regular guest on Home Show Garden Pros Facebook Live show, and a presenter for Urban Harvest educational Classes. She also travels around the country as a Horticulture Judge at Garden Club of America Flower Shows.
LOCATION
Urban Harvest main office is located at the Headquarters Building 3302 Canal St. Houston, TX 77003. The class will be held inside the cafeteria area and utilize the outdoor patio garden. A tour of the teaching garden will be provided to see how our garden grows during the dog days of summer. The Urban Harvest teaching garden was created in 2019 and underwritten by the generous support of Green Mountain Energy Sun Club Foundation. The garden irrigation is from a water catchment tank installed by Texas Metal Tanks and powered by solar panels. The garden is a demonstration garden of plot rotation based on the techniques and gardening strategies from Dr. Bob Randall’s Year-Round Gardening Book.
If you cannot attend the class as scheduled, there are no refunds or substitutions.
Registration will close 24 hours prior to most classes and 48 hours before all Sunday classes.
(After registration you will receive two emails, one is a receipt and the other will be sent 3 days prior to the class with event details that include zoom link and contact information. Contact education@urbanharvest.Org for questions.)
